How can a 17 year old suburban kid get a pistol?
Posted on April 21, 2010
this is strictly for self defense, no drugs/gang bangin involved…Oh and I don’t know any drug dealers…
vangion and DJ have this one.
Until you turn 18 you cannot purchase a shotgun or rifle without your parents buying it and you using it under their supervision. 21 years of age for handguns.
I would discuss this with your parents before you continue your search…out of respect for your parents.
Are you surprised that lefty trash like Rosie O'Donnell actually come to the defense of iran?

to carry around on you? you cant, and you cant buy one from a store.
your best off checking state laws.
if your going to leave it at home for self defense
you would be best off geting a 12gauge with pistel grips
and a short barrel and turkey shot. you cant buy that till your 18, but you could get your parents to buy it.

The only legal way for you to "get" a pistol is to have a parent purchase it and allow you to use it under adult supervision.
Any other way would be a violation of the Yahoo community guidelines.

Legally you can’t
Your parents can buy one that they allow you to use under the direct supervision of a responsible adult
But you can not own one until you are 18 or 21, depending on your state laws
Most if not all states that allow for concealed carry permits mandate that you must be 21 to get the permit
Your best option is pepper spray if legal in your area or a pocket knife if you will take the time to actually learn how to use on and if your state allows it

Your parent would have to buy you one.
Even if you did get one, it would be illegal for you to carry it on your person, since you are a minor.

Legally the answer is to wait 4 years and when you are 21 and have a clean record you can get one in most states. To carry one you must be 21 and have a license in most states. There are exceptions but this is generally the rule.

You can’t legally purchase a handgun at your age. Gun laws say you must be 21 to own handguns and 18 to own long guns ( rifles and shotguns ) You might be able to get your parents to purchase it for you? But then not many parents I know will do that because then will be responsible for anything that you might do with it.

As far as Im concerned a "kid" does not need a pistol. If thats how you feel about yourself then you should not have one. "Young adult" would be a much better term if you are responsible enough to use one. At 17, you cannot legally own one, much less buy and carry one. If you do want one you must get your parents to buy it and have them watch you shoot it.

a gift of a pistol from your parents is going to be your only choice and even then it is technically still theirs.
at 18 you can buy a handgun from a non-dealer in a ‘face to face’ transaction, but dealers are barred from selling handguns to anyone under the age of 21

As soon as you turn 18, you may be able to buy a modern pistol legally in a private sale depending on what state you live in. You may also be able to get a muzzleloading pistol at age 18 in your state from a store, the federal age limit of 21 doesn’t apply to muzzeloaders (last time I checked which was a while ago). Cabelas sells some neat blackpowder revolvers and derringers that sure worked well in the days of the Old West.
If the gun doesn’t need to be concealed, your best shoice would be getting a 12 guage when you turn 18.
Be careful with whatever you end up getting.

Unless your parents buy it for you, you can’t legally buy a handgun. You have to be 21 in every state I’ve ever heard of to buy a handgun from a dealer.
